Established on February 1, 1918, A/ Galenbindunuwewa Central College has flourished over the decades, guided by a commitment to academic excellence and nurturing young minds. Under the pioneering leadership of Mr. U.K. Chandrasekar, who served as its first principal and teacher, the school embarked on a journey to provide quality education rooted in values and knowledge.

Initially beginning with humble beginnings, the school expanded significantly in 1970 with the introduction of science and commerce sections, marking a pivotal moment in its educational offerings. This expansion laid the foundation for a more comprehensive curriculum that catered to diverse academic interests and career aspirations of its students.

In 1985,  A/ Galenbindunuwewa Central College achieved a significant milestone by transitioning into a central college, further enhancing its reputation as a hub of learning and intellectual growth. During the period from 1991 to 1995, despite challenges such as limited resources, the school demonstrated remarkable success with 11 students gaining admission to university in the science stream. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of both students and faculty alike.
